Héctor Zúñiga Rovira was born in Guanacaste, he studied in Ascensión Esquivel School in Liberia and  Liceo de Costa Rica. Then, he graduated as an agronomist in Escuela Nacional de la Agricultura. He has composed more than 70 songs.

His compositions describe the landscape, customs, love, joy and sorrow of the "Sabanero Guanacasteco.” His first songs were written when he was in high school. "Amor de Temporada" is one of his first songs and it was written in 1930.He played two instruments: the violin and guitar, which he taught for some time.

His greatest satisfaction as a composer was the day that the National Symphony performed his composition "Una Noche en la Hacienda" in the Church of Nicoya and Liberia in 1974.
